Know Your Theme Parks: The Nine Lands of Disneyland

Disneyland theme park in California is one of America's best-known theme parks. If you haven't been there yet, you are missing out on a lot of fun-filled rides and activities! It may come as a surprise to you, but there are at least nine lands within the entire Disneyland theme park, covering a total of 100 acres, which is equivalent to at least 76 football fields. The place is enormous! Here are the nine lands that make up the 100 acres of the theme park.

1. Main Street, USA

Main Street is Walt Disney's replica of his hometown, Marceline, Missouri. Main Street features a movie theater, town square, train station, firehouse, emporium, shops, arcades, and a double-decker bus. It also houses the Disney Art Gallery and the Opera House that holds the Lincoln stage show's Great Moments. And if you walk to Main Street's far end, you can find the Central Plaza, the Partners Statue, and Sleeping Beauty's Castle.

2. Adventureland

The second of the nine lands of Disneyland is Adventureland. When you step into this land, it will transport you to an exotic tropical place that makes you feel like you're in a forest/jungle-ish environment. Walt Disney created Adventureland so that guests could feel as if "they are far away from civilization, in the remote jungles of Africa and Asia."

You can find famous attractions here, such as the Indiana Jones Adventure, Tarzan's Treehouse, and the Jungle Cruise. You also have Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room that was the first attraction within the theme park to incorporate audio-animatronics.

3. Frontierland

Once you have explored the jungle environment, you can move on to the Wild West and visit Frontierland. Walt Disney created the American Frontier setting for this park with the Pinewood Indians, an animatronic Native American band that lives on the Rivers of America banks.

You can also find many attractions and entertainment within the area, including the Mark Twain Riverboat, Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer's Land, and Frontierland Shootin' Exposition, to name a few.

4. Fantasyland

For those who've watched the 1953 Peter Pan cartoon movie, you can get in touch with your magical side by visiting Fantasyland. The entire area is themed after the medieval European fairground fashion but refurbished in 1983 to look like the Bavarian village. A fun fact about Fantasyland is that it has the most fiber optics installed in the entire theme park.

5. Tomorrowland

Walt Disney had a vision of what the future would look like and turned that idea into reality by creating Tomorrowland. He also brought along several rocket scientists, including Willy Ley, Wernher von Braun, and Heinz Haber, to become his technical consultants during the designing phase of Tomorrowland. Fast forward to 1967, the area looked outdated, and a transformation was needed, so Walt Disney executives renewed everything and renamed it "New Tomorrowland."

6. New Orleans Square

New Orleans is well-known for its distinct environment, and Walt Disney took inspiration from the city and created New Orleans Square on July 24, 1966. This park is home to the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

7. Critter Country

Formerly known as "Bear Country" in 1972, it has an Indian Village that showcases the indigenous tribespeople's dances and customs. Critter Country is well-known for its fantastic ride, Splash Mountain, where visitors ride on a log that takes you on a trip that shows segments of the 1946 film "Song of the South" created by Disney. At the end, the ride goes down a steep slope where the riders and people standing near the ride's path get soaked!

8. Mickey's Toontown

Get ready for things to get wacky because Mickey's Toontown is where you can feel you're in a cartoon environment. Everything about the area is cartoon-themed, with inspiration from the 1988 film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." There are two main attractions: Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and Gadget's Go Coaster. You can also find the houses of famous cartoon characters, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck.

9. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

Disney bought the rights to own Star Wars and the park on May 31, 2016. The environment is based on the entire Star Wars theme, and many die-hard Star Wars fans flock to this part of the theme park. It's home to several attractions like the Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

To keep Disneyland and all of its attractions in good working order, ongoing repairs, maintenance, and renovations are necessary. Allowing maintenance personnel full access to all of the mechanical and electrical systems is essential. Installing  access doorsfloor hatches, and roof hatches enable the crew to keep the entire theme park functioning at optimal levels.
